Child Loss,  Walk with God,  Wrestling with God

Now We See Dimly

“For now, we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
I Corinthians 13:12

When faced with some of life’s hardest questions, we know that we can turn to God’s Word for answers and solace. The Bible tells us of God’s unchanging character. He is good, sovereign, loving, just, and never grows tired.

But what are we to do when we don’t find clear answers to our heartaches or sufferings in life? What do we tell ourselves or others who may be in pain?

As a mom of child loss, I have asked many questions in a million different ways about why my son died. I can’t help but wonder if there could have been a different outcome. My questions don’t have earthly answers that will suffice my mamaheart.

I have taken great peace in this verse found at the end of the famous love chapter. Some versions say that for now, we see dimly, only a reflection of what is actually reality. Our human eyes cannot see, nor can our human hearts comprehend, all that God is up to as He writes His story.

It will be a glorious day when we see our God face to face. What we now know in part, we will know fully. All of our agonizing questions will be answered in just a moment as we look into Jesus’ eyes.

Today, I pray that you can find the peace you need to carry on without clear answers to some of your greatest questions as you wait for that wonderful day when you finally see Jesus face to face. Even if you cannot see, He is redeeming your story and making beautiful things out of ashes.

Used this passage yesterday at a memorial service. The lady collected depression glass. Don’t know if you have looked much into this type of glass but they are very dark and hard to see through. I think it projected well the imagery that Paul is using in this reflection to the Corinthians. Stained glass is a real thing of beauty in the hands of artist. Our suffering can be a real thing of beauty in the hands of our artistic Creator. Resting as He moves is the hard pressing work of redemption’s call. Thanks for reminding me to well in this post.
