Why I Created the Heart Mom Journal

I spent nine months in the hospital with our strong heart warrior. During this time, my emotions were big and out of control and sometimes even scary. Honestly, the big feelings came as I sat in my OBGYN’s office and heard the words, “We only see two chambers of his heart.” Months later, grief took up residency in my heart when our precious boy passed away. My heart shattered, and I lived in the pit of despair for quite a long time. There are a few things that helped me as a heart mom and as a child loss mom. One is the community of other moms who had gone…

How Can I Help My Grieving Friend at Christmas?

The Christmas season comes with many fond memories and special traditions. Those affected by the loss of a loved one will need extra support as they face the holidays. It is so painful to embrace new traditions and experience old ones without those we love. It is also difficult to watch a friend or family member go through these waves of grief while also navigating the festivities of Christmas. You want to communicate that you love your friend and that you care about this significant loss. But how can you practically help a grieving friend face the holiday season? Over the last few years, I have learned a few simple…

Ten Things To Do for Families with Children in the Hospital

After spending nine months at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with our precious Hudson, we wanted to share a few things that helped us along the way. Our friends and family did these things so well and we are forever grateful. Hopefully, this list will help you if you find yourself with friends in this horrible situation. 1. Pray: the family is exhausted, desperate and at the end of their rope. They have little to no energy to pray for themselves so pray for them often and let them know that you are praying. Add the family to prayer emails at your church. If possible, keep up to date with the current…

Our New Years is going about like this. Yours? Ba Our New Years is going about like this. Yours?

Back to real life tomorrow.
Merry Christmas from The Sylvestres! Love to you Merry Christmas from The Sylvestres!

Love to you this Christmas night as we cling to the hope this day represents!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
We spent every holiday in the hospital in 2015-201 We spent every holiday in the hospital in 2015-2016. Easter, July 4th, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years, and then our boy went to heaven on Palm Sunday the next year.

Much of this hospital time feels like a blur of hopes deferred mixed with the sounds, beeps, and smells of hospital life. Cardiac intensive care unit life.

We celebrated with our boy as best we could in a city we didn’t know away from family. On our own in a sterile hospital clinging to a withering faith.

The beauty of Christmas proves to us that no matter what room we are in this season, He comes for us. He comes to hospital room, the funeral home, the graveside, and to your living room.

The One who came as “God with us” and not just WITH us but FOR us.

If you are in a room this Christmas feeling forgotten and unseen, He’s there. The King from the manger. The creator of it all. He came for you. He sees you. He’s faithful when our faith feels like it’s dying.

To you in the hospital, hurting, or grieving, hold onto Him as He holds onto you this Christmas. You are not forgotten.

Share with a friend who needs to borrow our hope and faith this year.

We love you, Huddy. At Christmas and always, my boy. Enjoy Jesus. Mama loves you.

Grief and trauma are felt more intensely during th Grief and trauma are felt more intensely during the holiday season.

While others are singing carols, making their favorite holiday treats, and decorating their homes, these traditions are screaming at you in surround sound, highlighting the profound loss you’ve experienced.

There is a way forward this holiday season.

You do not have to navigate your grief alone this Christmas.

We don’t need a day to remember. You come to mind almost every second of the day, my Huddy Buddy. Mama loves & misses those amazingly kissable cheeks. One day closer, my boy.
Last night I was honored to be at daveyblackburn’s book launch event.

This book is a story of hope and it reminds us that with God nothing is wasted. Not even our hardest days or our scariest emotions are too much for Him.

God is so good at making beauty from ashes.

I’m so thankful for the legacy Davey and Kristi are building through nothingiswastedministries and I’m incredibly humbled to have a front row seat.
