Grief Resources

A Grace Disguised by Jerry Sittser is one of the very best resources for anyone walking through the loss of someone they love.  Sittser is well acquainted with grief as he lost his wife, daughter, and mother on the same day.  This book helped me approach my grief head-on and saved me from years of bitterness.

If you are in the Chicagoland area, I cannot stress how helpful the Rebuild: Finding Life After Loss classes are at Willow Creek Community Church.  They offer these classes several times a year free of charge and you are in a community of people who have experienced the type of loss you are walking through.  You will not regret investing your time here.

The Hardest Peace: Expecting Grace in the Midst of Life’s Hard by Kara Tippets is a must read no matter what you are walking through today.  Tippets was a mother of four and wrote as she fought cancer.  In the midst of the worst life can offer, she writes words that are uplifting and full of real hope.  As I read her words, my son was critically sick in the hospital and I asked for faith like Tippets.  No doubt you will be encouraged beyond what you are facing today.

Colors of Goodbye written by September Vaudrey is a very moving memoir about one of life’s worst losses, the loss of her daughter.  She shares how her entire life changed with one phone call and points the reader to the truth that life can still be beautiful and that death is not the end of the story.
